★★★★ The guy in the knit hat and flip-flops wasn’t wrong, thermally, though it was maybe a roundabout way of getting there. Again the warm sun, again the gently chilly air. A little girl stooped to pick flaking paint off the foot of the gas station’s sign pole. A tall guy in shorts and slides, with dark athletic socks, dribbled a basketball intermittently up the block. Afternoon was gorgeously mild or mildly gorgeous. As the shadows settled over the streets, the vivid blue sky became a paler blue by contrast. The light lingered on the blocky grid of the face of the Silver Towers. There were no clouds to complicate the sunset.
