Plans And Death

“You probably have more plans the day before you die than you ever have any other time.”
 — I read this quote over the weekend — your tolerance for one more NEW YORK IN THE SEVENTIES story will determine whether or not you enjoy the article from which it comes — and was struck by what I saw as its crazy optimism (hope stands strong in defiance of death etc.), but there are probably any number of interpretations you can take away from it. On reflection I see it slightly more realistically (all of your hopes and dreams come to nothing in the end and the illusion that you will have time to fulfill them is one last cruel mockery life gets over on you before death tags in) but there are enough ways to look at it that it seems worth sharing. If you want to split the difference, try this reading: Don’t make any plans and you’ll never die.
