As we learned through commercial cinema and the music of Celine Dion, the RMS Titanic sunk to the bottom of the Atlantic in 1912 after hitting an iceberg. What you might not know is that the real-time sinking wasn’t much longer than a movie itself—the boat disappeared beneath the water only two hours and forty minutes after impact, taking with it all of the hubris and “we built an unsinkable ship” hype that had been surrounding it in the media.
