Rich Man Faithfully Depicted

It’s hard to imagine that Zack Snyder’s follow-up to the thoroughly miserable movie where Superman (admittedly, remarkably embodied by the engorged muscles and thick, rippling hair of Henry Cavill) is responsible for (hundreds of?) thousands of deaths and then snaps the neck of Michael Shannon won’t be deeply flawed. (Can’t wait to see Snyder’s brand of superhero feminism given that the wordless monster in this trailer — probably Doomsday — has more audible dialogue than Wonder Woman in either trailer she has been featured in.) And yet one has to commend Snyder’s seeming embrace of an interpretation of Bruce Wayne that was only subtextual, or vaguely gestured at, in previous movie depictions: a rich, xenophobic fascist, but with a suit of power armor. Art imitating life, something, something.
