★★ The dampness had easily reclaimed all outdoors and was making gains inside. Children spilled out of the building’s playroom into the tepid-bath warmth of the deck, under a featureless gray sky, pushing toy carts in various states of dilapidation. Sunscreen would not be a concern. In the afternoon, the river turned an intense silver, heralding a heavy sun shower. Then — after a brief spell of sun baking through the windows — the river went dark, heralding a completely conventional shower.
