★★★★ The morning drew people out onto their balconies. The sun was screened by high clouds early, but nevertheless glared off the sidewalk. Sweet air flowed, and the sky grew clearer. By afternoon the light was fit for basking in, while birds passed overhead. The streets running west were too bright to look down directly; plate glass subdued and held the passing scene, a protective mirror.
