Mariah Carey And Miguel, "Beautiful"

If you’re like me, you’ve been waiting 26 years to find out what happens next in Lou Gramm’s “Midnight Blue” video. What becomes of our hero, the oily gearhead bohunk in the black leather jacket, and his sexy paramour, the restless one who did not care that he was just a troubled boy looking for a double-dare? What of the next day? After they ride off under the moon in that gorgeous cherry-red convertible? What does this world have in store for them once the sun has risen and shined its light on their midnight fling with romantic fate? Well, fellow very old idiots dreamers, our prayers have been answered! Above, “Midnight Blue Part 2: Mariah Carey’s Beautiful (Featuring Miguel).”

To refresh your memory (“In last century’s episode…”) here’s Lou Gramm’s original.

The new one, “Beautiful” is a catchy song. The first time I listened to it, I wanted to cue it right up and listen again. If you’d like to know what happens to a human brain that listens to it again and again and again, exclusively, for 72 straight hours, Awl pal “dntsqzthchrmn” has been conducting such an experiment this week.

Debated looping the song on the commute, but Stockholm Syndrome kicked in. Comforted from the opening guitar notes and electrical hum.

Seems kind of important to know whether they’re saying “you’re mine it’s beautiful” or “your mind is beautiful.” One is truer, one is better

Both of their minds probably are beautiful! But if that’s what they’re saying then, what, this is a Cartesian mind-body split thesis?

Also, “your mind is stupid beautiful” deserves about eight exclamation marks.

But it fits with “I like when you run red lights,” especially if you add a comma before *beautiful.*

Mondegreens for Mariah’s line at 1:51 — oh you make me feel unbussable / impossible / I’m possible / unbossable / undressable…
