Today is the 80th anniversary of Glenn Herbert Gould’s birth, and all I can say is that I have listened to him, especially his Goldberg Variations, more than I have listened to any other musician in the world save for the trumpeter in Union Square who plays “Summertime” four times a goddamn day.
