New Laser-Beam Measurement Technology Flattering To Dinosaurs' Figures
“I think the early estimates were set in that big, fat and slow lizard mindset before the dinosaur renaissance. I think we will find that the lower estimates are much more appropriate for many dinosaurs.”
— You know how dinosaurs are always like, “Does this method of estimating my weight make me look fat?” Well, according to University of manchester paleontologist William Sellers, for the first 100 or so years of fossilized dinosaur bone measurement, the answer has been, “Yes.” Using a new laser-based method of modeling, Sellers and his team estimated the weight of a brachiosaurus whose bones are on display at Berlin’s Museum für Naturkunde to be 50,706 pounds. That’s 125,664 fewer pounds than was previously thought!
