Waiting for Michelle Obama at the "Largest Phonebank" In History
by Natasha Vargas-Cooper
An hour into today’s rally for Democratic candidates, and two-thirds of the gymnasium at Canyon Springs High School is full. Representatives Dina Titus and Shelley Berkley have each gotten up and announced that we are in attendance at not just a Michelle Obama appearance but also we are at the “largest phonebank in the history of the world!!!” They also suggested we take out our “cellulars to call someone so we can be the largest phonebank ever!!!”
Over her speakerphone, Berkley reached a voter who was confused by all the shouting, but did tell the Congressman that they would be voting in the morning. A third of the crowd in the middle school gymnasium sent text messages on their phone.
Berkeley announced that Michelle is still at the airport, before rolling her next call.
“Hello?!” Berkeley shouted into the phone, the crowd waiting. “He already voted for Senator Reid!” she announced.
Guess they aren’t checking the call rolls against early voting lists.
Still no Michelle; a campaign coordinator then led every one in a “one more time” chant. It goes like this, if you want to try it at home:
“Harry Reid!”
“One more time!”
Abruptly Daft Punk’s techno club hit “One More Time” comes blaring out of the speakers. People put their phones away.
Staffers then encouraged the crowd to come out of the bleachers to dance to Miley Cyrus.
Later on, the staffers danced to a skipping Boyz II Men CD.
