Squidworm Neither Squid Nor Worm

Behold the squidworm, a newly discovered deep-sea creature so different from any known species that the scientists who found it off the coast of Indonesia had to invent a whole new genus for it (Teuthidodrilus samae)! Three-and-a-half inches long, with ten tentacles and six pairs of nuchal organs protruding from its head, it is, as Discovery News reports, “far more elegant than its name would suggest. Swimming upright, it navigates by moving two body-length rows of thin, paddle-shaped protrusions that cascade like dominoes.” Much, much cooler than Laverne and Shirley’s neighbor, or Spongebob Squarepants’.
